Hanford Opener On Tap For Western Racesaver Sprints

VISALIA, Calif. — The Van De Pol Western IMCA RaceSaver Series season will get underway Saturday at Keller Auto Speedway in Hanford, Calif.

Due to continued COVID-19 restrictions, no fans will be allowed for opening weekend.

Defending champion Brooklyn Holland will highlight the drivers chasing the $3,000 championship points fund this season.

The series will see two new tracks highlight the schedule. The first doubleheader in series history will take place March 12-13 at the third-mile Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif. The series’ inaugural visit to Placerville (Calif.) Speedway will be July 10.

“At the end of 2019, I handed the drivers a sheet on which tracks they would like to see added to future schedules, and both Placerville and Kern County were on top of the list,” said RaceSaver promoter Denny Maurice. “No one in California enjoyed the race season in 2020; we have tracks calling us to add races still, and last year we were doing everything just to get a race in.”

In addition to Holland, Visalia’s Richard Weddle, Hanford’s Ryan Rocha, Visalia’s Philip Heynen, Hanford’s Grant Champlin, and Clovis shoe Kyle Rasmussen are some of the drivers looking to begin the season on the right foot.
