VADO, N.M. — Fans will have to wait an extra year to see the second edition of the Schaeffer’s Oil Wild Wing Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts.
With promotional staff full-speed ahead preparing for the move of the Wild West Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts to FK Rod Ends Vado Speedway Park, the decision was made to shelve the newly created event for one year.
“To be honest we are knee deep in preparations to take the Wild West Shootout to FK Rod Ends Vado Speedway Park for the 16th edition. With the permanent closing of Arizona Speedway a year earlier than originally scheduled, that left us transitioning to take the show on the road. We don’t do anything halfway, and to be able to get everything ready for the event at its new location, it requires all of our time and planning right now,” said Chris Kearns, who promotes both the Wild West Shootout and the Wild Wing Shootout. “We hate not having the Wild Wing Shootout in 2022, but on the bright side our gears are already turning for what we have in store for the Schaeffer’s Oil Wild Wing Shootout in 2023.”
The Schaeffer’s Oil Wild Wing Shootout presented by O’Reilly Auto Parts made its debut in January 2021 at Arizona Speedway. Co-headlined by 410 winged sprint cars and IMCA Modifieds, the event was a great success. Unfortunately, plans for the event to return in 2022 have been put on hold.
“We learned a lot from the inaugural Wild Wing Shootout, and we’ll be using that to make it even bigger and better in 2023,” Kearns stated. “I want to thank all of the fans, teams, and sponsors who have shown us support for the new event. This isn’t the end, but merely a pause.”
